The Adventure of Aucky Duck
One summers day down by the river, a little duck called Aucky who lived in The Isle Of Man with his Mummy and Daddy. It was very warm and sunny, so Aucky said “Mummy, can I go and play in the forest?” “Yes” said Mummy “but don’t go to far, and be careful”.
So off Aucky went into the dark and lush green forest, he could see all the big trees, and could hear the birds singing high in the branches. He hadn’t gone far when Aucky heard a noise behind him. He looked around but could not see anything, then all of a sudden CYRIL SQUIRREL jumped from behind a bush and scared Aucky.
Aucky ran as fast as he could and CYRIL SQUIRREL was chasing him, shouting “I will get you Aucky”.
Aucky ran and ran. He was very scared, then suddenly Aucky tripped and fell down a big Hollow in the forest. Over and over he fell and landed with a bump.
Aucky started to cry “My leg! of my leg! My leg!
CYRIL SQUIRREL peeped over the edge of the hollow, “I nearly got you Aucky” he yelled. Then CYRIL SQUIRREL looked down at Aucky, “What’s wrong?”
Aucky was crying and said “I’ve broken my leg and I can’t get up.”
“Ha! Ha!” said CYRIL SQUIRREL, AUCKY DUCK, AUCKY DUCK, broke his leg and he can’t get up! And away he went laughing and singing “AUCKY DUCK, AUCKY DUCK broke his leg and can’t get up.
Aucky lay in the hollow, his leg broken and very sore. Suddenly he heard a noise, he looked up and saw three little noses peeping over the top of the hollow. “Who’s there?” Aucky cried. Can you help me?”
A little voice said, It’s only us Aucky, the Go Nuts” and three little long nosed mice looked down at Aucky. “This is Ready, that’s Steady and I’m Eddie. We are called The Go Nut’s because we live on nuts from the forest. What’s wrong?” said Eddie.
Aucky cried “CYRIL SQUIRREL” chased me, and I’ve broken my leg and I can’t get up. Can you help me please.
I know what to do ” said Eddie. Right Ready you go and find two sticks the size of Aucky’s leg from the forest. Steady you go down into the hollow and keep Aucky warm, and I’m off to get some string from the farmers barn just down the path.
“Be carefull Eddie, said Ready, “remember Fat Cat, he eats Go Nuts for breakfast. Don’t worry about Fat cat” I’ll be careful said Eddie, I’ll be a quite as a mouse, and off he went.
Eddie soon came to the farmer’s barn, and sure enough FAT CAT was there fast asleep outside the barn door, but Eddie was very quite and crept past FAT CAT and climbed onto the bench in the barn and found some string. He crept past FAT CAT again and ran as fast as he could back to Aucky.
“I’ve got the string,” he shouted “and FAT CAT didn’t even see me. Ok Steady you hold Aucky leg and be careful, have you got the two sticks Ready, “yes here they are” he said, Eddie then put a stick each side of Aucky’s broken leg, and bound them round and round with the string, “There that should be ok now” said Eddie “lets get you home Aucky and tell your mum and dad what happened.
So off they went and took Aucky back to the river, Aucky had to rest and mend his leg.
Mrs Duck told Mrs Squirrel what a naughty boy CYRIL SQUIRREL had been.
CYRIL SQUIRREL said he was very sorry, and he would help Aucky to get better.
Aucky and CYRIL SQUIRREL are now good friends and READY, STEADY and EDDIE, the GO NUTS all play together in the forest.
